Draycote Water delivered a fantastic weekend of racing, coaching and fun at the British Youth Sailing (BYS) Regional Junior Championships last weekend. With over 70 young sailors enjoying this celebration of junior sailing in the Midlands.

South Staffs had 7 sailors taking part, this year all our sailors competed in the Championship fleet and all in Feva’s…! Well done to all our sailors Jack, Kim, Oli R, Mia ,Sophie, and Olly H/ Kyle who secured a silver medal, they all coped well in the mixed conditions over the weekend, with the wind shifting through 45 degrees this made the decision making around the course a massive challenge offering some great learning opportunities for our sailors who were coached by National RS Feva Coach Tim Rush.

Our attendance as a club to this annual event is crucial to help maintain our RYA Recognised Club status, so please save the date for next year – 17th / 18th June 2023 the event will be held at another amazing venue – Rutland Water, England’s largest lake..!

Hopefully next year we will have more South Staffs sailors in more fleets either the Regatta Fleet with coaching all around the course for those new to racing, or the Fun Fleet who have a brilliant weekend playing games building on their confidence on and off the water.
